Student-athletes from across the city were honored as Athletes of the Month by the Alexandria Sportsman’s Club on Jan. 15 at the Old Dominion Boat Club.
The organization’s monthly meeting featured eight varsity basketball coaches representing girls and boys teams from all four city high schools for a coaches round table. Participants shared their insight on coaching high school students, the value of participating in multiple sports, and how competition engages players and makes high school athletics fun for schools and community.
ASC president Ryan Fannon led the presentation of honors to 10 student-athletes for their academic and athletic accomplishments.
Honored as Student-Athletes of the Month were: Colleen Breslin, Youth Recreation, basketball; Ben Edmonds, Episcopal High School, basketball; Campbell Shelby, Episcopal High School, tennis; Princess Akojenu, Episcopal High School, basketball; Amirah Anderson, Bishop Ireton High School, basketball; Riley Jacobs, St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School, basketball; Ripp Kodi, Bishop Ireton High School, basketball; Tarik Sesay, Alexandria City High School, basketball; Victoria Patrick, Alexandria City High School, basketball; and Naheema Goin, St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School, basketball.
