Types of retail in Old Town as of 2011, the latest numbers available to the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership. According to Stephanie Landrum, president of the AEDP, nearly all of the businesses that have closed since 2011 were replaced by like-businesses, meaning national chains replaced national chains and local stores replaced local stores.

Within the next few months, Old Town Alexandria will be losing one of its small business institutions and a second one remains at risk for closure.
