Aditi Takle, senior, South Lakes High School “I volunteer at Cornerstones which is a local organization, I volunteer at the Herndon Neighborhood Resource Center, where once a week I'll go and tutor elementary school students who are generally underprivileged, so I'll help them with whatever homework they have, I'll read to them, just to help get them to grade level or past grade level. Another reason is that I'm the president of our school's chapter of Girls Learn International, so that's a national organization that advocates and fundraises for girls rights to education. So what we do at our chapter is that we fundraise and then we also do an advocacy event. Last year, we screened a documentary “Half the Sky.” And then this year, we're screening another documentary, “He Named Me Malala.” Our funds go to our partner school in India. I really got involved in the club because I think what they do is a really good cause especially because girls lack in education around the world. I got into Cornerstones just because I like tutoring, my sister used to tutor so I thought that would be a good opportunity for me but I really do like working with the kids.”
