Laurel Hill Holds Member Championship Tournament
Laurel Hill Golf Course held it's 8th Annual Member Championship Tournament Sept. 6 and 7. This two-day golf challenge was attended by 20 Laurel Hill members who were divided into three levels of play based on individual handicaps.

Dog adoption events are held by Homeless Animals Rescue Team, HART, each Saturday, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Petco store, Greenbriar Shopping Towncenter, 13053 Lee Jackson Memorial Hwy., Fairfax.
Tea Party Ticket
Republican convention selects conservative slate of candidates for November.
Perhaps the biggest sign that the Tea Party has taken control of the Republican Party of Virginia was the yellow Gadsden flag emblem that appeared on placards distributed by supporters of Jeannemarie Devolites Davis, who was one of seven candidates vying to be the nominee for lieutenant governor last weekend at a raucous convention in Richmond. Davis, who represented Fairfax County for a decade in the General Assembly, has a reputation as being a moderate.
City of Fairfax Band presents 'Springtime Pops'
The City of Fairfax Band will present a free show Saturday, June 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Mary Louise Jackson Amphitheater at Northern Virginia Community College, 6901 Sudley Road, Manassas. Parking is free next to the amphitheater. For weather-related cancellations, call 703-530-8298.

Reston Youth Swim, Bike, Run
Amy’s Amigos host annual Reston Youth Triathlon
Swimmers were able to hit the water at the Ridge Heights Pool Sunday, May 12, a few weeks before the scheduled Memorial Day pool opening, but there was a catch: they had to cycle and run as well. The annual Reston Youth Triathlon took triathletes age 6 to 15 through the pool and on the streets surrounding South Lakes High School and Langston Hughes Middle School. Participants ages 6 to 8 swam 50 meters, biked 1.03 miles and ran a third-mile, ages 9 to 11 swam 100 meters, biked three miles and ran 1.11 miles and ages 12 to 15 swam 150 meters, biked five miles and ran 1.51 miles.

To the Editor: The vanishing amount of affordable housing in Alexandria has been a frequent topic of discussion in the City in recent weeks. It is a complex topic that has people confusing “market-rate” affordable housing with “dedicated” affordable housing, which differ significantly.

Alexandria: The Band Plays On
Students, parents, and teachers reflect on music camp experience before Friday’s concert.
On Friday, the George Washington Middle will host a student orchestra and jazz concert. For attendees, the concert will be a free hour of live music. But for the performers, the concert is the culmination of a week of practice and learning at the Alexandria City Public Schools’ music camp.
